#ShePaddles
What is it?
#ShePaddles is a development focused programme that works with clubs across England to improve the opportunities for women and girls in paddlesport. This is achieved by supporting clubs to attract, retain and increase participation. Additionally, #ShePaddles focuses on supporting women to become coaches and leaders, as this plays an important part in changing the landscape within clubs and reducing the current gender split in paddling. At Trentham we are working towards gaining #ShePaddles Champion Club status, we have been beneficiaries of specific #ShePaddles grants to support sending some of our female members onto courses to become leaders/coaches.
What we are doing
At Trentham we are lucky to have had a #ShePaddles club champion for the last few years, this has meant we have been able to access funding to train up some of our female members into instructing/coaching roles.
We are also one of the few canoe clubs to have more female than male members!
Our current aim is to get more female coaches and instructors across all disciplines, and to encourage and support our female club members in trying all the paddlesports we offer.
What are training sessions like?
As part of our work towards becoming a #ShePaddles champion club we run some female only sessions that are led by our female coaches/instructors. These sessions consist of confidence and skills building whilst having fun playing games and touring on the lake.
