Each weekend in September, there will be competitions taking place in three locations around the UK: Holme Pierrepont, Lee Valley White Water Centre and Richmond Canoe Club. A range of disciplines will feature throughout the month, from Sprint and Paracanoe, to Canoe Polo and Freestyle, which showcases the breadth and diversity of the sport. Trentham Canoe Club will be involved too so watch this space!
Super September consists of:
2/3 September – Sprint & Paracanoe National Championships – Holme Pierrepont
The Sprint and Paracanoe National Championships is the first event to feature in Super September. Based at Holme Pierrepont, there will be a host of high profile athletes and Olympic medallists taking part in a bid to become National Champion, so it is an event not to be missed.
9/10 September – Canoe Polo National Championships – Holme Pierrepont
Set at the fabulous facility at Holme Pierrepont, the second weekend in September sees the Canoe Polo National Championships take to the brand new pitches in Nottingham. A number of teams will be taking part in the exciting, contact sport, where tactics and positional play are as important as speed and fitness.
16/17 September – Slalom British Open, Rafting & More – Lee Valley White Water Centre
Down at the wonderful Olympic setting which is Lee Valley, the British Open for Slalom will see some of the best athletes in British Canoeing take part in a major Slalom event. There will be two days of intense racing where competitors battle it out for a place in the final heats.
It’s not just slalom this weekend, freestyle, rafting and boater-x will all be competing over the weekend too. There will also be an opportunity to get on the water yourself. The event is free on entry, and you will be able to take part in a huge range of activities across the weekend, such as canoe polo, white water rafting and sit-on-top kayaks.
24 September – Marathon Hasler Finals - Richmond
The annual British Canoeing Marathon Hasler Final will this year take place in Richmond. The event will see clubs from across the UK make their way to the suburban area in south-west London to compete for the prestigious Hasler Trophy.
30/1 September/October – Freestyle European Open & British Championships – Holme Pierrepont
This year’s Freestyle European Open is based at Holme Pierrepont for the last weekend in September. Make your way down to see some fun, fast and dynamic action. Using white water waves and holes to perform tricks, this event is not to be missed. This event will also include the British Championships and the club championships. Events will range from freestyle to Boater Cross to Crowd Pleaser.
September is an exciting month for British Canoeing and there is something for everyone; whether you are an experienced canoeing expert, or a newcomer to the sport.
